November 5 had been designated as Bank Transfer Day, which got its start as a reaction to debit card fees. Thousands of people pledged to close their bank accounts and move their money to customer friendly financial institutions. In a little more than a month, more than 72,000 people had pledged to take part. A Google search for "Bank Transfer Day" yielded 63 million hits. The reaction to Bank Transfer Day represents a festering distrust of "fee greedy" banks.

Industry pundits say that it is not just about people switching banks over a single fee. They point out that it's about people (possibly representing next generation customers) who dislike "greedy" bankers.
